Myrna – Class of 2006

Myrna came to the Mission in a state of mental, emotional, physical and spiritual exhaustion.  As a young woman, she had experienced loss when she placed her child for adoption.  Her two marriages and a 12-year relationship had left her feeling neglected, used and plagued with guilt and tears.  In the early 90’s, Myrna had two work related injuries, which triggered Fibromyalgia Syndrome.  After losing four jobs due to loss of health she had to stop working.  Due to the pain she became a self-medicating addict, abusing alcohol and prescription drugs.  She says:

“I literally collapsed into the Mission.  I was so exhausted.  This Christian based program promises ‘life change’ and it delivers.  I was haunted by the premonition that I would be dead in less than 2 years and I was afraid of dying alone.  Depressed and crying I moved in.  A year later I moved out as a program graduate.”

Myrna has been on her own for six years and aims to give back to the Mission in any and every way she can.

Crystal – Class of 2006

At 21 years old, Crystal found herself outside a 7-11 wondering what in the world she was going to do now. Her lifestyle had left her without gas, money, food or a home to go to. Crystal had been raised in a Christian home, but met a man who introduced her to drugs. When she finally reached out for help, she was directed toward Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. In January of 2005, Crystal moved into the Women’s Home and began taking steps forward instead of backwards. Through the program she was able to deal with some tough personal issues, while gaining the skills necessary for living on her own.

Crystal has made a successful transition out of the program into life. After living and working in Regina for a few years, she decided to become a Bible College student. Crystal has a heart to reach out and serve others, as well as a desire to grow in her personal faith walk. It is amazing to see what God has done in her life.
