Meet our Volunteers
Carolyn Lowther: Volunteer Receptionist 2006-2010
Carolyn began to get involved through monthly meetings of WARM, our “Womens Auxiliary of the Rescue Mission”. She then received a newsletter that spoke about the volunteer opportunities available. She applied and discovered that she was able to help out as a receptionist. That was 4 ½ years ago. In this time she has built relationships with the staff, and come to understand the cause in a deeper way. Over time it has just become a regular part of her week.
When reflecting on her time spent at the office, she says “it’s getting to know the staff, and particularly those who have graduated the program – hearing their stories and seeing what God has done in their lives that keeps me coming back”. Having shared lunch many times with the women of the LifeChange Program, it’s given Carolyn an opportunity to see how these women, from all different places in life and at different stages in the program, interact with each other. She recognizes that they are living in a difficult place but they are still allowing God to work in them and change them. Carolyn says “volunteering at the Mission is a rewarding experience. It opens your eyes, no matter who you are working with, clients, or the staff. It’s an opportunity to get a different perspective on life.”
