What you have is more than enough

What you have is more than enough.
-Peter Walsh

I watched Nate Berkus do four budget makeovers on Oprah as I prepared for dinner after work today. The shopping was done at Target and their own homes, reusing or creatively placing or moving items they already owned, and clearing their clutter.

As Oprah, Nate & Peter sat around discussing the transformations, Peter came up with that phrase, that is so reminiscent of that great fifth verse in Hebrews:
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.
In times of recession, we ought to do what is counter-intuitive, and that is to count our blessings and get back to the basics of life: friendship, community, church. You know the popular slogan: Live. Laugh. Love.

But more than that, share in the lives of others. Love them. Celebrate good times together, and be there in the bad times. Lend a helping hand. Remember your mother's birthday. Not with something that costs money. But with the gift of YOU.

As a new busy fall season approaches and we start to fill our calendars with activities, consider a simpler way of life. Where things are put back in their place and people are the priority.
