Heart Health

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. -Eph 6:12

As a missionary, I am very aware that the "petty" or "human" concerns that seem to crop up are not man's idea. They are straight from the pit.

Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. -1 Pet 5:8b

The answer is clear:

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. -Eph 6:11

If we don't do this, we aren't protected and the enemy destroys us from the inside out. Missionaries leave the mission field. Pastors quit. Forgiveness is withheld. Rash decisions are made.

What should we be doing, then, practically speaking? There is something here for all of us:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; ...

Employees, be obedient to them that are your employers, according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

And, ye employers, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

-Eph 6:1-10

We all have a part to play in this battle. We need to stop judging one another and move forward, "doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord."

Is it time for a "heart" check-up?
