I've heard it all!

Well, now I think I've heard it all. We get a lot of wonderful letters and donations this time of year. People just seem to open their hearts wide at Christmas.
However, the story of the Grinch who stole Christmas still rings true. Here's some of the comments I've read this past week:
"The government should look after the poor."
"Stop running this scam!"
"If the kids were taught to look after their toys better they wouldn't need need a free meal!"
Alright, let's just clarify a few things here...
We really are a charity. We really do feed the poor, not only at Christmas, but all year round. We also have a huge four course holiday dinner and invite every home in the impoverished neighbourhoods to come and join. Our staff forgo THEIR holiday to make this happen!!
And, let me tell you, the CHILDREN are the innocent victims here. I laugh at the people who think the government can solve the problems of the poor. The problems are far beyond their grasp; they are spiritual at their core. But the children...
They truly are the innocent victims here. Someone who can write them off does not know the pain of living with an abusive or alcholic parent. One of our board members recently went to a presentation and emailed me the following:
There are 300 child prostitutes in Regina. In many cases, it's their family that's sent them onto the street to feed their addictions.
Jesus said it best, "But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” Mark 10:14&15
